Sunday Stash: Bite Sized
I have not been a big buyer of precuts so far in my sewing career. But over the past six months I've collected a little stash of them.
I started with a charm pack of Botanics that snuck into my shopping basket (one of them anyway!) in the fall.
When I ordered fabric for Audrey's quilt in December, these mini charm packs were an inexpensive way to try out a few lines that appealed to me without adding to the shipping cost. During my spree at the Intrepid Thread in February I added the Hello Petal and Color Me Happy charm packs.
I'll admit that I've been kind of stuck ever since. What do you use precuts for? Any favorite patterns that use charm packs?
Linking up with Sunday Stash.

Yummy stacks of fabric goodness, Leigh Anne! Charm packs are a great way to get a little taste of a new fabric line. Here's a link to a quilt pattern that uses a charm pack.... http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/home-decor/modern-charm---a-charm-pack-quilt/81681
ReplyDeleteYou have some great selections! Fat Quarter Shop has been creating patterns that use precuts. They have three so far for a jelly roll, layer cake and a charm pack. Also check out the Moda Bake Shop; they have lots of free patterns for their precuts too!
ReplyDeleteFun lines! I used mini charms packs recently to make some placemats for the local Meals on Wheels - they're great for adding just a row across something with a splash of color! I also love them for doll quilts : )
ReplyDeleteMini charm packs are fun for EPP hexagons
ReplyDeleteSo glad you asked this question because I wonder about this too. I have a couple of charm packs and just not sure what to do with them! Great responses so far!
ReplyDeleteHere's a Pinterest board I made for charms and mini charms, http://www.pinterest.com/grecomara/charms-and-candy-squares/, I know there are more and have been bad about putting them on my board, have fun, I love charms and mini charms.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of mini-charm and charm patterns on the Moda Bake Shop site. That is my go-to site. All of the patterns are free.
ReplyDeleteTruly Scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteLove charm packs. I used them to make a tumbler quilt as they are the perfect size! Jenny Doan of MSQC does a ton of youtube tutorials using pre-cuts! You should check it out.
ReplyDeleteHow fun. I've used one charm pack so far in my quilting career (search storytime squares or bluebird park on my blog and that quilt should come up), and the nice thing about it was how much more quickly I could settle into sewing. I have another charm pack and a jelly roll waiting for me this summer. Here's my Pinterest board where I've been collecting precut friendly tutorials. There are a few charm pack ones on there: http://www.pinterest.com/lindyblue/precut-friendly-quilt-patterns/ I also think that just about anything that is HST based lends itself well to charm packs; you might just need to adjust the dimensions for a 5 inch block.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I've never really gotten into purchasing Charm Packs or Minis. I do have one Amy Buttler Charm Pack, but I've yet to use it. They do look cute though!
ReplyDeleteAhhh precuts. Love them, hate them. I have bought a few, and ended up being stuck just the same way you are. I made two quilts using just a layer cake. One was simple bricks, and the other one was with hourglass - the hourglass one ended up being a tad small for a lap quilt. I also made one with a charm pack, but with the addition of yardage of coordinating fabric. I know I will get sucked in again (so pretty! so cheap! so easy!) but they have never been are my best purchases. If you make smaller items and if the fabrics can "play nice" with other lines, you should be able to put them to good use.
ReplyDeleteOhh... nice choices in precuts! I have to admit, I haven't bought the charm size or mini-charms yet because I don't know what I'd do with them... But they'd totally look cute on the shelf!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to have a love affair with precuts, especially since I mainly fabric shop online and it's not practical for me to buy half yards of everything (plus I prefer scrappy quilts with lots of fabrics)! Precuts are such a nice way of having a piece of everything in a collection :)
