A New Skill

All right, folks, I need your help!  This book is on it's way to me as a birthday gift from my wonderful mother.  I have NEVER done embroidery so I have no idea what I will need.  Aaaaaand, I have some child free time and a Michael's gift card to do some shopping.  That child free time?  Won't happen again until August.  Can y'all suggest what I should get as a start up kit?  Can that even be done at Michaels?  HELP!

  2. Happy birthday! Let's see if I can help: you need embroidery floss DMC brand is likely that Michael's carries it, embroidery needles, embroidery hoops (a small and a medium), and a pen with washable ink to transfer your patterns onto the fabric.

  3. Happy birthday! I have this book and have recently enjoyed learning embroidery from it. You will need an embroidery book, some plain white cotton, dmc threads and an embroidery needle. The book comes with iron on transfers which are fantastic and make this easier. Enjoy!

  5. Make sure you get some Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex Fusible Woven I don't know if Michaels has it, but for sure Joanne's would, fuse it to the fabric you are using, it stabilizes it better and hides the threads better. Check this blog for great tutorials on embroidery, http://echinopsaster.blogspot.gr/p/honeyomb.html , but the book you are getting is awesome from what I hear, enjoy the fun week ahead or last 3 days.
