Move it Monday-The Challenge

UGH!  I feel like I am becoming a weight loss blogger who only blogs about how crappy the last week was and makes grand proclamations about how tomorrow will be better.  And, to be perfectly honest, I generally unsubscribe from those blogs :(  So I took some time to think about what has been holding me back and what will ensure my success going forward.

A big challenge for me is processed foods.  It's almost like an addiction for me.  Once I start, I don't seem to have an off switch.  When I eat a clean diet, I feel good and light and have energy.  My moods stabilize, my hunger is minimal and weight loss just happens.  So I joined a clean eating challenge on Facebook starting today and lasting 5 days.  From past experience 5 days is a good groundwork to keep going.  Part of that challenge is drinking half our body weight in oz of water each day.  So I got a proper water bottle and it has already made a difference.

Another obstacle for me  is lack of incentive.  I don't really care if it takes me another two years to lose the weight and sometimes that can lead to complacency. But I've put on 10 pounds and that is more than complacency!  So I've decided to add in some positive and negative reinforcement.

I've set my goal at 15 pounds in 10 weeks.  This is challenging but totally achievable goal if I eat clean and stick to my workouts.  So where is the reinforcement, you ask?  Well, should I not meet my goal I will send 4 fat quarters to everyone who comments on both this post and my final weight in post!  If I do meet my goal, I will allow myself to buy a fat quarter for every pound lost when I got to California in the spring.    I will be within daytrip distance of The Intrepid Thread!!  Since I'm on a fabricfast, this is a huge incentive :)

I will be weighing in here every other Monday.  The loss must be safe, meaning I can't do nothing until the final two week.  If I love all the weight early on and then do nothing else, challenge lost. So leave a comment  but I hope I won't have to send anybody anything :)

Not happy with that number!

  4. I lost a lot of weight a year ago and now I'm up about 12 lbs. I too need to turn this train around! Good luck. I think I will head out for a walk now and also get back to clean eating.

  5. Great motivation. I'm on fabric fast too and have built some incentives inti finishes from my list. But to combine this with the weight loss incentives is pure inspirations. Don't know if I'm brave enough to post my weight but kudos to you.

  7. I definitely hope you aren't sending me any fat quarters. Not that I wouldn't love them, but I want you to be able to reach your goals and spoil yourself with fat quarters :-) Yay for the new water bottle. I find that the ones with the straws help me drink water faster, so I hope the same it true for you. I bought another water bottle yesterday. I figured enough of the nonsense of leaving one at school and then letting myself off the hook at home. I think just working the plan until it works for you is key. Can't wait to hear the update next week about what 5 days of clean eating does to kick start your new motivation!

  8. Have you considered joining a CSA (community supported agriculture)? Basically you're subscribing to a share of a particular farm's yearly harvest. Most have vegetables and berries, but some have fruit and flowers, even meat and eggs. It's really important to get personal recommendations from people in your area otherwise you could end up with an entire summer of zucchini and tomatoes. Having a constant stream of fresh fruit and veggies, will make it easier to eat right this summer.

  10. Get those shopping shoes ready and look forward to treating yourself to a whole bundle of goodies. You can do this, the secret really is to stay away from processed foods and stick to good heathy whole foods and drink lots of water. Oh and don't be surprised if you lose a lot in the first week or so, that'll be the water weight as your body gets used to finally having enough water and shedding some of the extra it's been storing. Once you have done the first five days cherish that lighter better feeling and aim to maintain that.

  11. Good luck with the clean eating! For me, every day I go through the list of what I can have or not have that morning. The thinking about what I will eat down to every mouth full can stop a self sabotage. Yeah for the clean eating! Did you say what site?

  13. I don't want you to have to send anyone any fabric!! But it's a good incentive. Processed sweet stuff is my downfall too - I have a new rule now that unless I make it myself i can't eat it. It's working pretty good so far. Good luck you can do it!!!

  15. Good luck! You've got some good strategies going. Remember to get back on the horse with a minimum of fuss and negativity. Everybody falls off now and then, the trick is to not stay there !

  17. You can do it! I've put on a ridiculous amount of weight just this winter. With the warmer weather coming I am itching to get outside and get back in my walking routine, but I hear you - having a family and others dependent on you is SO hard when trying to lose weight. Especially running around doing errands when the littlest (who never eats) says Can we get a whopper?? haha...yah, NO willpower. I look forward to seeing your progress and will cheer you on!
